Priority 3. HOUSING & DEVELOPMENT

"The housing crisis is real in Whitehorse with a significant shortage of affordable housing.  This is driven by rapid growth, rising prices and limited land availability. The City has a significant role to play in helping people make their home here and supporting the housing development sector."

Prioritize Housing and Sustainable Land Development:

  • Extend the term of the Housing and Land Development Advisory Committee.
  • Incentivize affordable housing developments to developers who prioritize sustainable and green construction that address community needs. 
  • Partner with private developers and non-profits to integrate affordable housing into planned communities.

Work to Balance Housing Supply and Demand:

  • Regularly assess population growth and housing needs to guide planning decisions.
  • Fast-track development approvals for housing projects that meet community needs, including affordable and rental units.
  • Create incentives for developers to build diverse housing types, such as apartments, townhomes, and single-family homes, to meet a variety of needs.
